NEW CD “BLOOD”

Nuno Côrte-Real’s BLOOD is arguably his most politically charged musical statement to date. Released on Solo Musica in July, the album brings together two works whose creation is separated by more than a decade. Recorded with the Berlin Symphony Orchestra, they belong together like two sides of the same diagnosis of the present.

The Sinfonia 2022, op. 70, responds to Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine—an historic rupture etched into collective memory like few other events. It received its world premiere in April 2025 at the Berlin Philharmonie. The Banksters Suite, op. 75, distilled from his 2011 opera of the same name and premiered in Parma in November 2024, illuminates a quieter yet equally pervasive form of violence: the invisible threat posed to civil society by unregulated high finance. BLOOD reflects this dual echo without slipping into nihilism. It is precisely here that its wounded beauty unfolds.
